KARILAGAN Folkloric Group
Kari lagan members have dance practices scheduled every Fridays 630-900 and Saturdays 2-6 pm at the Asian Center. For any questions, please call our Cultural Committee Chairperson, Hennie Aquino at 243-5685.
TAGALOG CLASS
Classes have restarted on Saturday, January 15, at 1 pm and every Saturday thereafter at the Asian Center. Thank you to Dr. Aurora Hovland for volunteering to teach the class. For questions, please contact our Educational Chairperson Evelyn Abello at 333-8669 and Co-chair Mayette Morein at 242-2211.
45TH FOUNDER’S DAY BANQUET AND BALL
Founders’ Day Banquet and Ball will be held on Saturday, March 27th 2010 at the Sheraton Hotel. Please mark your calendar for this upcoming event. Chairperson for this event is Quint Bagcal. Committees and members have been formed but if you are still interested in joining the committee, please contact Quint. At this time, we are looking for Ushers/Usherettes – please contact Elvira. Tickets have been distributed to members. Please turn in any payments as soon as it’s received to reserve a table.
EDUCATIONAL GRANT
FCAA is accepting applications for the annual educational grant for the deserving junior high school students. For more information, please contact our Educational Grant Committee Chair, Evelyn and Co-chair, Mayette.
Here's the education grant information:
The FCAA, Inc. is pleased to announce that its Education Committee is accepting applications for its 2010 Education Grant of $1,000.00. The deadline for submitting applications is March 13, 2010. The grant will be presented to the recipient(s) at the FCAA's Annual Founding Anniversary Banquet & Ball on March 27, 2010.
I. Who is eligible to apply for the FCAA education grant?
a) Children of FCAA members who are in good standing may apply. ("Members in good standing" are members who are current in their membership dues.)
b) The applicant must be enrolled as a junior in high school at time of application.
c) The applicant must have actively participated in FCAA activities for at least two years at time of application. "Active participation" means participating in or helping out at FCAA events such as the annual founding anniversary banquet, annual Independence Day picnic, annual Christmas Party, cultural performances, such as the Karilagan Folkloric Group, FCAA-sponsored events in the greater Anchorage community, and other school or greater Anchorage community activities that involve the promotion of the Filipino cultural heritage.
d) The applicant must have a GPA of 3.5.
II. What are the application requirements?
a) A cover letter stating the applicant's intent to apply for the education grant and addressing (1) why the applicant believes s/he deserves the award and (2) the applicant's educational goals.
b) A 300-word essay on this topic: "How I Can Promote the Filipino Cultural Heritage and Enrich the Cultural Diversity of Anchorage."
c) An official school transcript.
d) An application packet that is mailed to FCAA, Inc., P. O. Box 243856, Anchorage, AK 99524-3856 and postmarked on or before March 13, 2010.
INDEPENDENCE DAY PICNIC – SATURDAY, JUNE 12TH, AT PENA PARK
FCAA’s annual picnic will be held on Saturday, June 12th, at the Pena/Centennial Park at Muldoon. There will be more details in April newsletter.
